JOB DESCRIPTION
Ilili seeks an experienced project coordinator who is passionate about the conservation of marine wildlife and working with fishing communities and decisionmakers to support our research and conservation projects. Reporting to the Executive Director, the consultant will oversee different projects in the Bay Islands of Honduras, and work with multi-sectoral partners and communities to help develop and implement project activities. The role requires strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with local communities, government institutions, researchers, and strategic partners to advance marine conservation initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Effectively manage project execution by supervising key aspects such as program deliverables, fundraising, grant oversight, and thorough reporting. Our primary focus is to ensure the efficient and successful achievement of the project’s goals and objectives.
- Represent ilili before visitors, partners, local businesses, and strategic stakeholders in Roatán.
- Identify and develop strategic partnerships with hotels, dive centers, tour operators, restaurants, and other local businesses interested in supporting conservation initiatives.
- Promote institutional programs, activities, and products to strengthen the organization’s financial sustainability.
- Facilitate connections with potential donors, sponsors, and strategic partners interested in supporting the organization’s work.
- Assist with the organization and logistics of events, talks, community activities, and fieldwork.
- Participate in and support citizen science and field activities whenever possible.
- Generate basic content, including photographs, short videos, and activity updates, to support the communications team.
- Maintain active communication and follow-up with local partners, collaborators, and stakeholders.
- Identify and report opportunities for collaboration and strategic partnerships to the leadership team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, tourism, environmental studies, marine biology, international relations, business administration, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in partnerships, outreach, tourism, hospitality, fundraising, communications, community engagement, or nonprofit work.
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to engage confidently with diverse audiences, including tourists, local businesses, donors, and community members.
- Experience working with NGOs, conservation initiatives, tourism operators, or community based projects is considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish preferred.
- Familiarity with Roatán’s tourism sector, local businesses, and community dynamics is highly desirable.
- Advanced open water diver
- Competent Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom user
- Ability to work both independently and as functional team member; focus on results and responding positively to feedback; diplomacy and political sensitivity; accountability.
- Good planning, logistical and organizing skills; with ability to deliver high quality results against tight deadlines; attention to detail and follow-through.
The position has a duration of 12 months with the possibility of extension depending on the results.
