6-night/7-day stay at JN Roth Marine Biology Station in the Florida Keys
Located in the town of Layton, Florida, the station is surrounded by mangroves and provides direct access (via boat dock and boat ramp) to the barrier reef on the ocean side, or the segrass beds on the bay side. The station is located in the middle keys at Mile Marker 69 - about 1 1/2 hours to Key West and about 1 hour to Key Largo. The station has two ’student’ bedrooms with dorm-style bunkbeds, each with a bathroom facility containing two toilets and two showers. It also has an instructor room with a queen bed and private bathroom. The facility can hold up to 13 people, one must be over 21 and designated as group leader/contact person. The station is perfect for school groups wanting a hands-on field experience, a researcher needing a central location for field-based research, or even an organization or agency looking for a retreat or training workshop. Or maybe just a fun week in the keys. The rental rate for the facility is generally based on the number of people in the group, but a week long stay would generally cost between $4,000 and $5,500. The station can be reserved when our students are not using the facility. So the available months are generally January - April, June, July, and December. More information can be found here.
